I used to live in the Helsinki area but in 2020, I moved to North Karelia. However, I kept my Helsinki library card in order to access ebooks and audiobooks, as the selection available in English in the (local) Vaara library collection is quite limited.
Before I moved, I asked about using the Helsinki library services from outside of the capital area, and the librarian in Oodi told me that it was perfectly fine. However, if I stopped using the services for 3 years, my card would be cancelled.
Today I looked at my borrowing history in Helmet, and it seems to have stopped on 28 February 2020. It shows none of the ebooks or audiobooks I started to borrow in May 2020, when I was still resident in Helsinki, and none of those I've borrowed since I've been in North Karelia.
This is quite strange, because my borrowing history of ebooks and audiobooks shows clearly in the mobile app Libby, through which I read and listen to these media.
I am worried that because my Helmet record does not show my borrowing history correctly, my card will be cancelled after one year and I will no longer be able to borrow ebooks or audiobooks from Helmet.
Would you please advise me whether my card is going to be cancelled due to lack of use and if so, what I can do to rectify the situation?
Answer
E-books don't show in your reading history since the e-book services are not fully integrated to Helmet database. They will however keep you library card active, so there is no reason to worry about your card being cancelled. Logging into your Helmet account will keep your card active also.
