Yes, Ruoholahti Children's Library is open to everyone. The most of the collection is for children and the library is closed during school holidays. But otherwise it is like any other Helsinki city library. Wellcome!

In which Library around Helsinki can I borrow fiction books in French? (apart from Sello and the one in Pasila) |

|
|
Here you have a link to a list of all fiction books in French in HelMet libraries around the capital region:
http://luettelo.helmet.fi/search/X?SEARCH=**&searchscope=4&m=1&l=fre&b=…
So, as you see there are quite a few libraries that harbour at least some kind of a collection of books in French.
If you would like to restrict the search to a given library, go to this page: http://luettelo.helmet.fi/search~S9/X . Type two asterisks (**) in the search field. Instead of Entire collection, choose Fiction. For material type, choose book and for language, French. Then choose the library you want and click Go!

An interesting idea, but unfortunately there is no easy way to organize it. If you are interested in working in Finland You can contact to Embassy of Finland, New Delhi (http://www.finland.org.in/public/default.aspx?culture=en-US&contentlan=2). Embassy personal can help with visas and work permits.

I have a question: What qualities define a great team leader? Thank you for your answer |

|
|
|
You can find litterature in English about teams and leadership from Helmet-online catalogue (www.helmet.fi) for example by using keywords (in Finnish) tiimit and johtaminen and then limit the search by language (English). As a result you get, among others, Belbin, Meredith: Team roles at work 2010; Robbins, Stephen P: Essentials of organizational behavior 2010; Godard, Alain: Transformational leadership: shared dreams to succeed 2000; Goleman, Daniel: The new leaders: transforming the art of leadership into the science of results 2003.
Here is one internetpage dealing with the subject:

I am glad to hear that you are interested in Helsinki City Library.
First of all, I wonder which page you were looking at to find the information you mentioned. Perhaps it was the home page of Helsinki City Library ( http://www.lib.hel.fi/en-GB/ ) .
This may sound a little complicated, but I will try to help you understand the points you mentioned.
Helsinki City Library consists of the Main Library and 38 branch libraries. The Main library is situated in Pasila district about three kilometres from the city centre. It has the largest collections and also houses the administrative departments of whole Helsinki City Library. The branch libraries are situated in different areas all around the city. In addition to these, Helsinki City Library… |

We have a public library statistics -database, http://tilastot.kirjastot.fi/en-GB/ but it does’nt include statistics about Internet access in libraries anymore. We had figures on our pages in the early 2000’s, but nowadays we do’nt give those figures anymore, because all public libraries have Internet access (this fact is stated ex.g. on the site of the Ministry of Education and Culture). We can somewhat safely conclude that atleast almost all if not all public libraries provide internet access and computers for their customers.

I am a member of the library. My library card is getting expired on 14-Dec-2012. How do I renew my library card. What is procedure. |

It’s very easy to renew your library card. Just go to your local HelMet Library, and take your ID card or passport with you. There you can ask the library staff to renew your card by showing your library card and ID card or passport.
If you have a Finnish social security number (“henkilötunnus”), they can add it to your library card, and after that there is no need to renew the card. If you don’t that number, you will have to renew your card in the future, too.
You can find all the HelMet Libraries and the contact information at http://www.helmet.fi/en-US. Welcome to renew your card!

Sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with the new HelMet. We are going to develop it further.
You can renew your loans so:
Login through HelMet web library http://www.helmet.fi/en-US. The Login-link is top and in the middle of the website. You need your library card number and pin-code. Now you can see your loans.
There is a renew-link in the left side of the loan. Choose the loans you are going to renew and click Renew selected loans -link. Answer "Yes" to the question "The following item(s) will be renewed, would you like to proceed?" Now you can see the new due date of your loans.

Via A guide to the Scientific Libraries in Finland (http://www-db.helsinki.fi/kirjastot/en/) you can find 23 libraries focused on medicine, 6 libraries focused on nursing and 2 libraries focused on health sciences. Of course there could be same libraries in several lists. And some of the libraries are also focused on some other fields too. You can find the names of the libraries here:

You can find statistics about Helsinki city library so:
http://tilastot.kirjastot.fi/en-GB/ > search statistics > Area selection > Municipality (Helsinki) > > Statistics selection > Loans or Personnel.
Or you can find them from Yearly reports:
http://tilastot.kirjastot.fi/en-GB/yearlyreports.aspx
We don’t have volunteers working in our libraries. Playing games by the library computers is usually allowable. Eating or drinking at the same time is not forbidden. It takes one to three days for a reserved book to go to an another Helmet library (Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa or Kauniainen city library).

There is one lendable copy of the book in Helsinki University Library. It´s a text material, so I think it`s not available via pdf, but You can order the book as an interlibrary loan via some Estonian library.
It´s borrowed right now, but it should be free from 3.9.
