All Finnish public libraries are responsible for their own cataloguing. There is an enterprise, BTJ, http://www.btj.fi/ , who sells materials for public libraries, also cataloguing records. Thus the main part of Finnish public libraries buy cataloguing records from BTJ and fill in information in these records at their own cataloguing departements. Centralized cataloguing for public libraries does'nt exist in Finland.

1. You can study information and library studies in many places in Finland depending on the level you want to reach. You can do higher level studies in three universities: Tampere, Oulu and Åbo Academy (=Swedish speaking uviversity in Turku).Tampere University is maybe the most wellknown of these.
You can also do the business school level studies in Seinäjoki, Oulu, Vaasa, Turku and Helsinki. There are also various open university courses for basic level information studies after which you can continue your studies in the above mentioned places, but you have to pass the entrance exam. Yes, even the smallest municipality in Finland has to provide some library services. There are some municipalities with a couple of hundred inhabitants in Finland: Sottunga (122 inhabitants), Kökar (258 inhabitants), Kumlinge (371 inhabitants), and Lumparland (391 inhabitants), and each has a small library. For example, the Kökar Library has about 7 600 books, and 36 loans per a customer (in 2007).
If there are many villages in a municipality, there is no need to maintain a library in every village. Usually, the library is located in the biggest village, or in the center of the municipality. Municipalities can also provide library services together, but many municipalities prefer to maintain their own library.

As of 1st January 2010, state subsidy for any given municipality is 54,63€ per inhabitants. These figures are from the Finnish language pages of the Ministry of Education. There is an interesting book about the history of this sport in Finland, which contains also some history of the javelin itself. It’s name is Suuri suomalainen keihäskirja, es. Siukonen Markku, Pulakka Martti and Ahola Matti. Gummerus Jyväskylä 1991. Since the book is published in finnish, i try to find the most important infomation for you.

You can renew your loans in Helmet web library, if your loans are from Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa or Kauniainen libraries. You need your own PIN code which is attached to your library card number. You can get your pin code from your library.

3)Now write your library card number and pin code and then log in.
4)You can see your loans and choose what to renew. You can renew your loans three times, if there are no reservations. If you have payments of 5 euros or more for library then you can renew your loans only after you have paid so that your fee is under 5 euros.

Unfortunately a great part of the old contents have disappeared. I tried to locate the Kantele recording of "Karjalan kunnailla" by Timo Väänänen on Internet, but i found only information about the records by Timo Väänänen. This piece was'nt on his reocrds. Your question is very wide and it's hard to give you any definitive answers. When people talk about web 2.0 technologies in libraries they usually use the term Library 2.0 . Wikipedia has a nice article about Library 2.0. I think you should start by reading it. The article is full of references to other articles. You can find it here:

E-book is not necesserily a good example of web 2.0 technologies. Web 2.0 usually refers to the services, which use user driven technologies and collaboration. E-book is not like that. It is just like a normal book in a new digital platform.
