I searched from Helsinki City Libary's database and found only one book on overtone singing. The book is called "Overtone singing: physics and metaphysics of harmonics in east and west" and it is written by Marc C. van Tongeren:

Wikipedia has a very fine article about overtone singing. The article has an excellent list of external references. Many of these refenrences have audio clips.

The National library of Finland has the largest collection of material in English. Undergraduate library has also quite a good English collection. Both of these are open to all the customers, you don't have to student or scholar to borrow books from them. Their material is mostly scientific.

The Helsinki city center has also city libraries, which have English material also. The largest English collection in city center is in Rikardinkatu library. Pasila's library has larger collection, but it is situated a couple of kilometers from the city center.

Hallo! I'm looking for English translations of two pieces of poems by Eino Leino. Could you please help me? The poems I'm looking for are "Kun kello seisoo"… |

The poem "Kun kello seisoo" can be found in English in a sheet music "Moment musical : Heikki Sarmannon lauluja Eino Leinon runoihin". The translation of the poem is When the clock stands still by Aina Swan Cutler. The sheet music is available at HelMet-libraries http://www.helmet.fi/search~S9/X .
The verses: "Aika voitetahan joka kerta, jolloin aatos miehen mieless syttyy" are from Eino Leino's poem "Aika" (Time). It has been published e.g. in the collection called Kangastuksia. We looked up anthologies which contain English translations of Finnish poetry and searched from The database Finnish literature in translation (see below). Unfortunately, we didn't find an English version of the poem.

Certainly our DVD "Risto Räppääjä" should be possible to play anywhere, not only in Helsinki. If you tried to play the disc in the right device (DVD player), then I cannot tell, what is the problem. The disc is quite new, but of course you can try to wipe the disc only with a cotton cloth (without water or any cleaner). Or then there is some problem with your player maybe - you can try, if it plays some other DVDs.

I would like to ask you about legal deposit in Finland. The law determines that National library and some university libraries (Oulu, Jyväskylä, Åbo, Joensuu… |

According to the Legal deposit copy law (2007) the producer of any printed material, sound recording or visual recording is liable for delivering legal deposit copies of the products free of charge. Printed material is here considered to be any product with technically duplicated text or visual content. ”The law takes no position on the material´s contents, nor does it set any political, aesthetic or moral priorities or restrictions.” (Agricolasta Aku Ankkaan, p. 39.) Thus, university libraries do get copies of materials belonging to their fields of authority, regardless of content or quality of the material in question.

Good evening, can you tell me something about the organization of the adult's and childern' department of the Helsinki City Library? (how many staff, books,… |

The Helsinki City Library doesn’t have separate departments for adults and children on the organization-level of the whole library. We have 36 libraries and 2 mobile libraries (see, http://www.lib.hel.fi/en-GB/organisaatio/ ), separate chlidren’s departments exist in the main library (Pasila) and our biggest branch libraries (Itäkeskus, Kallio, Rikhardinkatu, Töölö and Vuosisaari) and they are run on the library level. Also one of the book mobiles concentrates in children’s material and services. For further information, you can find contact information here, http://www.libraries.fi/en-gb/Kirjastot/Kunnankirjasto.aspx?municipalit… . The amount of personnel working with children’s services is thus quite difficult to say.

Why the stars have to be so faraway?? Why my star is so untouchible?? I only want to sent him a letter with best greetings...but would i be realized wrong??… |

The stars are so far away, because the universe has developed in such a way since the Bib Bang, or because it has been created that way - depending on how you think of it. But then again, if the stars were closer, they would burn us... So, that's why the stars have to be untouchable.
Well then, if your "star" is a human being, I can't see any reason why you couldn't send him greetings in a letter. Of course it is impossible to say how he would react to your message, but at least I would be delighted to get greetings from somebody - even from a person I do not personally know. The only way to find out his reaction is to try and send him the letter you are planning.
Of course he may remain untouchable to you anyway. But even if you don't get… |

Thank you for your question!
1. FICORA and the libraries haven't got any direct connection with each other. FICORA's regulations and licences affect everything in Finland, so they have also affect on libraries. But this is indirect connection. You can read everything about FICORA here:
http://www.ficora.fi/en/index.html
2. We don't have a ranking system for libraries, but we make yearly statistics about libraries' activities. The research and public libraries have their own and separate statistical systems:

I assume that the enquirer is not asking for retail shops where private persons purchase their dvd’s.
Public libraries buy their dvd’s mostly from the following importers and wholesalers:
- BTJ Finland Oy, http://www.btj.fi/ (in Finnish and in Swedish; e-mail asiakaspalvelu(at)btj.fi )
- Oy Tibo-Trading Ab, http://www.tibo.net/?l=en

- Futurefilm, http://www.futurefilm.fi/index.php (in Finnish, e-mail tilaukset(at)futurefilm.fi
As to dvd stores, you can ask some of them about their importers:

1a) Interlibrary loans sent from the Central Public Library to another library
Current Library Act says in its chapter 4, paragraph 5, that the use of a public library’s own materials on the library premises as well as borrowing them is free of charge. The law stipulates further, that the interlibrary loans that the Central Public Library sends to other public libraries are free of charge. That is what Helsinki City Library does. The receiving library in the other end may charge their customer for an interlibrary loan sent from Helsinki City Library, but that has nothing to do with the latter.
According to the law, the library may charge for other services than those mentioned. We do charge academic libraries for the interlibrary loans… |

Helsinki City Library accepts book donations with pleasure. You could ask your nearest library if they can take books to their collection. Library staff evaluate the donation and decide to take books to collection or not. Library staff pick and choose material according to what kind of material is lacking from collection. Worn out books libraries don't accept.

In some Helsinki City Libraries there is every now and then recycling point or book trolley for old books. You can leave extra books there and take some books to read.

In Helsinki there are several libraries that have a special children’s department, for example Pasila, Kallio, Töölö, Rikhardinkatu, Itäkeskus and Vuosaari libraries. Children’s departments have a large collection of fairytales and picture books in several languages as well as some toys and puzzles. Also smaller libraries without children’s department have books for children. More information you can find on Helsinki City Library’s web page www.lib.hel.fi (choose In English to get the English page).
