The item is not available in HelMet libraries anymore, but Lappeenranta and Kuopio public libraries have it furthermore in their collections. Because the item is not found in any library of Helsinki metropolitan area, it is possible to make a distant loan request in our internet service http://www.lib.hel.fi/forms/kaukopalvelupyynto.asp
If you need a book not available in Helsinki, you can browse library collections in whole Finland by using Frank-database. You find it here http://monihaku.kirjastot.fi/frank/ or by writing keyword Frank-monihaku to Google as well. On the first page you see all alternative search categories.

You may return the library book by mail, the address to Library 10 is:
Kirjasto 10
Elielinaukio 2 G
P.O. Box 4200
If the book happens to get lost in the mail, it will be your responsibility to compensate for it by paying the compensation charge ordered by the owner of the book, the city library in question.
Books can also be renewed three times either at our www.helmet.fi homepage or by telephone. To renew items through the Net you need a PIN code that you can only acquire by visiting a city library in the Helsinki region. The Library 10 telephone number is 09-31085000. Renewals cannot be made if you have unpaid library fees that exceed 5€.

First I would like to acknowledge that this answer is provided by a librarian at the Helsinki City Library (in Finland). We do not have specialized information on the international baccalaureate curriculum, school libraries or software for school libraries. We can therefore only give recommendations for where you can find the exact answers.
1. To acquire an accurate answer to your first question I suggest that you visit the International Baccalaureate website (http://www.ibo.org/). You can e.g. log on to their Online curriculum centre (http://occ.ibo.org/ibis/occ/guest/home.cfm) or send in your question through their information service, http://www.ibo.org/contact/.

The finnish memory organisations have lately decided to centralize the digitisation of national cultural heritage. The new consortium is called Digitalia. National Library´s digitisation centre, which is located in Mikkeli, will form the foundation of Digitalia. National Library`s digitisation centre will start a mass digitisation of the National Library's sound recordings in 2007.

I guess you'd have more useful info if you contact any American information service, but we could gather something for you, though the texts themselves are mostly American anyway. In the Finnish university libraries' database I could find a couple of books.
- Artist and identity in twentieth-century America / Matthew Baigell. New York : Cambridge University Press, 2001. (Includes chapters American art and national identity: the 1920s, and The beginnings of "The American wave" and the Depression.)
- Historicizing lifestyle : mediating taste, consumption and identity from the 1900s to 1970s / edited by David Bell, Joanne Hollows. Aldershot, England : Ashgate Burlington, VT , cop. 2006. (Includes chapter Depression and recovery : self-help… |

I`m afraid there is no digital language course online offered by Helsinki City Library at the moment. I couldn`t find any information about that either. Helsinki City Library offers e.g. e-books for customers to borrow https://www2.helmet.fi/ebook/?LANG=en
In some swedish libraries it`s possible to download music and audio books onto mp3-players. Maybe in the near future it`s possible to offer language courses also.

Do you have any books or handbooks in Albanian Language? |
521 |
|
|
|
Yes we have. You can search in HelMet-catalogue (www.helmet.fi) also in English. Books in Albanian language you can find like this: choose guided search Keyword , write two small stars (**), limit your search by material code ’book’ and by language ’Albanian’. You can also choose Sorting order by ’year of publication’ or ’alphabetical’. As a result you get the collection of literature in Albanian language in Helsinki metropolitan area City Libraries (Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen). In Helsinki Pasila, the Main Llibrary, has the biggest number of books in Albanian, but at the moment the library is closed for renovation.

Can I order books from another library in Finland (e..g. Oulu Library) to be sent to Helsinki? If yes, what are the costs? Kittos. |
893 |
|
|
|
Yes you can if the material you need doesn't exist in libraries in the metropolitan area. The form for interlibrary loans you find here http://www.lib.hel.fi/page.asp?_item_id=3459 . Interlibrary loan inside Finland or from Nordic countries costs 4 €.
