The Finns are avid readers and library users: in 2024 the total annual lending was 85,4 million items (15.3 per capita), the annual number of library visits was 50,7 million (9,1 per capita) and the internet services of the libraries were used 46,2 million times. The total material stock was 30,6 million items. There are 706 public libraries and 118 bookmobiles in Finland.
The data in the Finnish Public Libraries Statistics Database and its maintenance is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
All the public libraries in Finland (except Aland Islands) and the Regional State Administrative Agencies take part in the production of the statistical information.
